In recognition of the Group's efforts in safeguarding the interests of its employees, the community and our environment, Shun Tak Holdings Limited and two of its subsidiaries Shun Tak Property Management Limited and Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited have been awarded the Caring Company Logo 2006/07 by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Our Workplace
Concerned with the well being of all employees, we place strong emphasis on a safe and ergonomically sound workplace. Lighting, display screens, equipments and workstations are all designed to provide maximum comfort in prevention of potential health problems for our staff.
Our Employees
Our employees are active participants in many charity events, including the Community Chest Hong Kong and Macau Walks for Millions; Salvation Army Macau O! Day and the Oxfam Trailwalker. Not only did our teams achieve exceptional results in the races, they successfully raised over HK$150,000 for the charities in year 2007.
Members from the Shun Tak Volunteer Team are dedicated towards reaching out directly to those in need. In May 2007, the team visited an elderly home through the Helping Hand Program. Special games and entertainment programs were designed to bring a delightful afternoon for the seniors.
Our Environment
The Group encourages paperless communications in the workplace, and has established recycle programs for reusable materials, stationeries and papers. Shun Tak Holdings Limited is also a Pearl Member of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Hong Kong in 2007, firmly putting its weight behind environmental education and conservation initiatives that address pressing issues both in Hong Kong and across the globe.
Our TurboJET fleet uses eco-friendly paints and top quality aircraft fuels with the objective of keeping pollutants to a minimum. TurboJET delightedly participated in Hong Kong Harbour Day 2007 as one of its main sponsors, to arouse concerns for the care of our city's natural resources.
Our Community
After the devastating Sichuan earthquake in May 2008, the Group showed great concern to our compatriots and called for donations from our subsidiaries and offices across Hong Kong, Macau and China. In a collective display of generosity from our staff, response has been overwhelming with the total value of proceeds topping HK$350,000. The funds are delivered to Red Cross China as well as the Liaison Offices of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong and Macau.
Earlier in the year, the Group has also donated HK$500,000 to Macau Red Cross in February 2008 to support relief operations in areas struck by the severe snowstorm, which affected more than 100 million people in over 20 provinces. The donation would be used to purchase relief items, including medicine to combat influenza and other respiratory diseases, re-build houses and establish agricultural programs with the aim of restoring the livelihoods of all victims as soon as possible.
In December 2007, the Group shared the joy of Christmas with more than 4,500 cancer survivors at Ocean Park as Bronze Sponsor for a special charity night. The event, hosted by the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, coincides with our continual commitment to help the needy and allows guests, family and friends to revel in this festive season.
Rolling back the years, the SARS outbreak in 2003 was certainly one of the greatest adversities facing Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in recent times. To help restore economic vitality and traffic in the region, TurboJET offered a total of 300,000 free return ferry tickets for travellers heading to Macau from June to August. The initiative was launched in collaboration with Macau Government Tourism Office in a bid to speed up the recovery of tourism in the region.
Our Future
In terms of education, TurboJET launched a scholarship program in 2007 which aims to acknowledge academic excellence for students in maritime or transportation studies, as well as to harness their continuous interest in the industry. One student was selected each from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, Maritime Services Training Institute and the Hong Kong Sea School, to share an annual scholarship fund of over $150,000.
