Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau proudly announces that it has become the first hotel in Macau to achieve the prestigious LEED Gold Certification under the LEED for Operations and Maintenance (O+M): Existing Buildings—an internationally recognized milestone awarded by U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. It promotes sustainability through a framework for designing and maintaining healthy, efficient, and cost-effective green buildings. The LEED O+M certification specifically assesses how existing buildings are operated and maintained across key areas such as energy efficiency, water usage, indoor air quality, waste management, and overall occupant experience. This recognition places Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau among a global network of over 197,000 certified projects in more than 180 countries, collectively transforming the built environment for a more sustainable future.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Andy To, Managing Director of USGBC & GBCI North Asia, remarked “In a city where tradition and transformation are in constant dialogue, Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau offers a rare and powerful statement: that cultural legacy and environmental responsibility are not opposing forces, but natural partners. Rooted in a distinct architectural and emotional history, the property has embraced the rigor of sustainable operations while honoring the soul of Macau’s heritage. This vision has been made possible by the long-term leadership of Shun Tak Holdings, whose commitment to ESG principles continues to shape how hospitality can serve both people and the planet. We see this not only as a meaningful achievement for the project, but as a signpost for how Asian cities can evolve—thoughtfully, responsibly, and with deep respect for place.”
Mr. Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President of Macau and Hengqin of Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, reaffirmed the hotel’s mission and ongoing initiatives that led to the LEED Gold certification, “As a hotel deeply rooted in Macau’s heritage, we are proud to contribute to the city’s green development goals and to show that cultural preservation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. With more than 40 rich years of genuine hospitality and timeless charm, we continue to prove that sustainability isn’t about age—it’s about mindset. Some may call us an older hotel, but our heart is young, and we are full of energy and ambition to set new trends. It shows that meaningful leadership lies in the quiet determination to do what’s right—consistently and thoughtfully. Sustainability is not a trend for us, it is a mindset woven into every part of our operation. We are grateful to USGBC for recognizing this commitment. The certification is both a proud achievement for our team and a call to action for the wider hospitality sector. We hope it inspires more hotels in the region to embrace sustainability with authenticity, courage and ambition with long-term vision.”
Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau has consistently pushed forward environmental initiatives that deliver long-term impact. Recent milestones include the conversion from diesel to cleaner-burning natural gas and the installation of an advanced air ducting filtration system featuring the latest technology to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency. In addition to green purchasing and energy conservation measures, the hotel operates a robust internal Environmental Management System (EMS), recycles a wide range of materials, and actively partners with global sustainability programs such as Nordaq’s premium water system, Nespresso’s capsule recycling scheme, the sourcing of cage-free eggs, and the introduction of plant-based options. The hotel also engages with the community through initiatives such as World Earth Day tree planting, supporting many charity programs, and continuous staff and guest involvement in building a more sustainable future.
This certification reflects the group’s vision for advancing green building initiatives and highlights the hotel’s active role in promoting sustainable development. The dedication and passion of the Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau team have made this achievement possible, enabling us to continue driving remarkable accomplishments with professionalism in the future, bringing more innovation and green transformation to the industry.
